In the period from March 28 to April 01, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Health of the Sverdlovsk Region have held exercises on the territory of Yekaterinburg-Expo venue to deploy a temporary hospital for the fight against coronavirus ( covid -19) in the Sverdlovsk Region and the city of Yekaterinburg.

Throughout the world during emergencies became widespread the practice of using large-area venues as temporary hospitals for victims and patients. Stadiums, large hotels and exhibition centers were usually used for this.

The International Exhibition Center “Yekaterinburg-Expo” was chosen for the exercises for the following reasons:

  • located at a distance from the city center, linked to the public transport hubs, and pedestrian flows;
  • the exhibition center has ample parking and convenient entrances for unloading equipment to the Pavilions;
  • the premises of the exhibition center have a limited number of entrances and exits, which allows you to control the perimeter of the object;
  • the equipped kitchen is located at the venue that can serve staff and patients.

2 pavilions were used for the exercises. Beds, medical equipment and the mobile headquarters of the Ministry of Emergencies were placed in them. It was assumed that it was the pavilions could become the right place for patients.

For example, the congress center is a separate building and due to its isolation from the pavilions and design features, it cannot be used as an element of the hospital.

The exercises showed that in the case of worsening epidemiological situation, the placement of patients in the EXPO can be arranged in several hours.
