The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) is participating in the 25th Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) and Dubai Solar Show, which kicked off today at the Dubai World Trade Center and continues until 17th November.
Under the theme ‘At the forefront of sustainability’, the event showcases a wide host of innovative and pioneering initiatives and ambitious projects that help accelerate the energy transition and achieve climate neutrality.
As part of its participation, MoEI seeks to highlight the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 that was updated recently to reflect higher ambitions and commitment to climate action and the energy transition. The strategy has set clear targets for 2030 including: tripling the share of renewable energy, increasing the installed clean energy capacity from 14.2 GW to 19.8 GW, and surging the share of installed clean energy in the total energy mix to 30 percent to ensure the country is on track to achieve its climate change mitigation goals. Moreover, the strategy aims to increase individual and institutional energy consumption efficiency by 42-45 percent.
At its stand in WETEX, the Ministry team also showcases the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050 which aims to strengthen the UAE’s position as a leading producer and supplier of low-emission hydrogen by 2031 through the development of supply chains and the establishment of hydrogen oases and a dedicated national research and development centre for hydrogen technologies.
In addition, the team provides an overview of the National Demand Management Program that targets a 40 percent reduction in energy use and 50 percent reduction in water consumption over business as usual by 2050 through enhancing energy and water efficiency in four highly intensive sectors: built environment, industry, agriculture, and transport.
Moreover, MoEI aims to explore and learn from best practices and experiences that can support its commitment to integrating sustainability across its mandates.
Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Electricity, Water, and Future Energy at MoEI, said, “The 25th WETEX and Dubai Solar Show gains a paramount importance as it paves the way for the 28th UN climate change Conference of the Parties (COP28) that will place the energy transition at the heart of its processes.”
He added, “As part of our participation at this event, we will present to our stakeholders and the public the leading projects and policies that we developed as part of our efforts to support environmental sustainability and address climate change. We have set a clear plan to reduce emissions and achieve net zero by 2050. Our plan is in motion, and we are already seeing tangible results in our energy and environmental sustainability.”
