King Felipe VI of Spain today opened the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which is taking place from 27th February to 2nd March in Barcelona, the Spanish news agency, Agencia EFE, reported.

In his opening speech, the Spanish King highlighted the event’s significance as an opportunity to meet and exchange views on current industry issues, and discover how mobile technology is helping to navigate global challenges.

According to projections, the MWC, which is organised by the GSMA, will have an economic impact of over €350 million.

The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez; Nadia Calviño, Deputy Prime Minister of Spain and Minister for Economy and Digitalisation; and Ada Colau, Mayor of Barcelona, were also present at the opening of the global event, which is estimated to attract over 80,000 visitors, 1,000 speakers and 2,000 exhibitors.

Across numerous sessions, the Mobile World Congress will discuss key topics in the industry, including 5G and 6G technologies, Industry 4.0, the Metaverse, as well as the latest mobile trends.
