On May 30, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan held a business meeting with representatives of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Welcoming guests from Dubai, Almaz Khusainov, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan, noted the importance of Tatarstan-Emirates cooperation, expressed the readiness of Tatarstan to participate in new projects and provide support in their implementation, and also presented the trade and industrial potential of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Dr Yousif Ibrahim Al Akraf, Executive Vice President for Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA, during the meeting described in detail the activities of DEWA.

The DEWA office is the responsible organization in Dubai for the energy production and distribution, as well as for the water and electricity supply of Dubai. The main strategy of DEWA is to implement green economy projects. By 2050, DEWA plans to use 75% of clean energy from various sources (solar, nuclear, etc.). For these purposes, DEWA installs solar panels on homes in UAE, and also organizes infrastructure for installing more than 300 Charger stations for charging electric vehicles across Dubai.

Dr. Yousif Ibrahim Al Akraf also told about the international exhibition WETEX, which is designed to become one of the tools for the innovative development of Dubai. The exhibition is dedicated to water treatment technologies, energy technologies and environmental protection, and has been held annually since 1999. The exhibition brings together about 2,000 companies from around the world and provides more than 40,000 B2B meetings.

The Vice-President of DEWA invited representatives of Tatarstan companies to participate in the exhibition. “I hope that this will be the beginning of our mutual relations, and we will be able to strengthen them in the future,” said Mr. Yousif Ibrahim Al Akraf.

As part of the business meeting, the UAE Water Aid Foundation (Suqia) was also presented. The Foundation was organized in 2014 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The purpose of the organization is to provide access to clean water to all in need. Thanks to the various programs of the Foundation and volunteer activities, today more than 9 million people in 34 countries of the world have been provided with clean water. The Foundation oversees Global Water Award launched by HH Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The award with prizes totalling USD1 million, to encourage companies and students to find best innovative water purification project.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the representatives of Tatarstan and Dubai expressed their readiness for mutual participation in various projects and the further development of partnerships.
