Osmar Chohfi, President of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), has said that visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai have exceeded 20 million, indicating that the global event was a success.

“The past few years have proven to be an exceptionally challenging period for the world. We must laud the UAE’s successful efforts in organising the Expo 2020 Dubai amid these obstacles, hosting the largest event of its kind in the world, that has helped serve as a beacon of hope for the future,” he said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

“The platform has been exceptionally utilised to facilitate many global summits and conferences presided over by distinguished government officials and global leaders,” he added. This only highlights the event and the UAE’s significant contribution to the revival and recovery of the global economy and its various vital sectors, such as business, tourism, and travel.

According to him, the global exposition has yielded several positive results, from the signing of hundreds of cooperation agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to the announcement of plans by many institutions and companies to launch offices in Dubai. “All these initiatives have contributed to marking the UAE’s position on the global investment and tourism map and solidify its position as a global station that can attract international public-private partnerships.”

The efficient organisation of the event has allowed visitors to enjoy the activities and sites while still adhering to strict safety protocols. “This effort was praised by various media outlets, who presented the UAE as a model of development, innovation, and tolerance for the world,” Chohfi added.

“By hosting this global exposition, the UAE offered the world access to in-depth knowledge of the UAE’s history, civilisation, heritage, and culture.”

It has also strengthened the UAE’s international economic and cultural position, ranking first regionally and 15th internationally on the Global Soft Power Index 2022. “This has all been thanks to the strategies implemented under the guidance of our wise leadership.”

The UAE has also been able to highlight the contributions of the Arab civilisation and the role it played in enriching the world. The image of Arabs has brightened in the eyes of the world due to the Arab pavilions, as confirmed in various press reports broadcasted at the Expo 2020 Dubai. “This can be attributed to how they were able to highlight their success in innovation, sustainability, and development,” the ABCC President stated.

He said, “The ABCC was also able to experience the fair share of important events at the Expo 2020 Dubai. Firstly, the Brazilian and Arab groups were able to further strengthen business by signing more than 10 MoUs.

“Secondly, numerous meetings took place between Arab and Brazilian officials, resulting in agreements with the Egyptian Minister of Industry and Trade, Nevine Gamea, and with the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. MoUs were also signed between the ABCC and the Federation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Chambers and with Dubai’s DP World.

“Lastly, the ABCC was also able to support and organise the second mission of Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, to the region, which included a visit to Expo 2020 Dubai,” he said in conclusion.
